Our Story

The Early Learning Center Preschool (ELCP) is an outreach of Northwoods Presbyterian Church's ministry to families with young children ranging from six weeks through pre-Kindergarten.  The school, which has served the North Houston community for more than 30 years, strives to give every child a time and place where he or she can be nurtured and feel loved, happy, safe, secure and accepted in a Christian environment.  Our experienced staff strives to instill in young children a sense of security and self-worth building a foundation for a life-long love of learning.  We welcome children of all racial, religious, and ethnic origins.

Our Philosophy & Curriculum

The ELCP is founded on the premise that children progress through developmental stages at their own individual pace due to their unique personalities, interests, needs and learning styles.

The ELCP endorses the Comprehensive Innovations Curriculum whose primary focus is six developmental tasks for Infants, Toddlers, and Preschoolers. These tasks are: Transitioning, Making Friends, Exploring Roles, Communicating, Problem Solving, and Expressing Feelings. The tasks are achieved through observations and assessments, child development, interactions, teaching, parent/family participation, environments and weekly/monthly interest units.

The ELCP also follows the guidelines set forth by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). These incorporate the required social, emotional, physical and cognitive skills in the following areas: Literature, Reading, Math, Fine Arts, Science, Social Studies, Large Motor Skills, Fine Motor Skills.

What Our Families Say

"I have had two children enrolled in ELCP from the infant room up to the "Twos" room. I have
FINALLY found a place where my children's basic needs are met (clean, safe, nourished) AND
where they are thriving socially and academically. The staff is amazing - caring, engaged,
nurturing, attentive. The directors are actively involved and responsive to every comment,
request, or concern I have had. This is the type of facility where even the most anxious
parents can leave their child and go to work with complete peace of mind."
"Excellent preschool and mother's day out program.  Amazing, caring teachers and
flexible hours. I highly recommend it!"  - Anonymous, Childareavenue.com

"Northwoods Presbyterian ELCP is a wonderful preschool.  The teachers are
incredibly nurturing and very dedicated. I have one child who graduated from the program
and is excelling  in school beyond my wildest expectations. My youngest is graduating this
year and can't wait to  go to kindergarten! I feel as if they have been given  a great start
to an excellent education!  Thanks you Northwoods ELCP!!" - Marlene, Mamasource

"I have had 2 sons that have attended the ELCP at Northwoods and
they have learned so much. It is a wonderful curriculum based program with lots
of activities. My youngest is currently enrolled there now and he loves going to school
3 days a week. A great school to get ready for kindergarten!" - Kim, Mamasource
"This school is wonderful and has a very dedicated group of teachers. It also has a flexible program
offering  a range of days and times.  As the mother of a 1 year old and a 3 year old, I wanted
a place where they both would be happy.  What a great find!" - Anonymous, Mamasource
